Murkong Selek College, Jonai
Principal's Desk
Dr. Dipok Kumar Doley
It gives me immense pleasure to introduce Murkong Selek College, Jonai, a premier institution of higher education that has been serving the educational aspirations of the people of Jonai Co-District and the neighbouring regions since its establishment in 1984. Founded with the noble vision of spreading higher education among the socially, economically, and educationally disadvantaged sections of society, the college stands today as a symbol of academic progress, social commitment, and community empowerment.
Murkong Selek College was established as a result of the long-felt demand and collective efforts of the people of Jonai and adjoining areas. Situated in the vicinity of Jonai township bordering Arunachal Pradesh, the college caters primarily to a rural and tribal population under the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) area. The institution was founded with the objective of making higher education accessible to students belonging to the Mising community and other tribal and non-tribal communities residing in this remote region.
Over the years, the college has grown remarkably in terms of academic programmes, student enrolment, infrastructure, and institutional development. Affiliated with Dibrugarh University, Murkong Selek College offers Higher Secondary and Undergraduate programmes across Arts and Science streams through various academic departments. The institution continuously strives to maintain academic excellence through quality teaching, student-centric learning practices, research activities, extension programmes, and skill-development initiatives.
Since its inception, the college has remained committed to its mission of providing quality education, fostering intellectual growth, promoting scientific temper, and nurturing responsible citizenship among students. The institution works tirelessly to create an academic atmosphere that encourages discipline, innovation, inclusiveness, social harmony, and lifelong learning.
Today, Murkong Selek College has emerged as one of the leading educational institutions of the region, supported by dedicated faculty members, efficient administrative staff, active alumni, and enthusiastic students. The college continues to strengthen its academic and physical infrastructure through modern classrooms, library facilities, digital learning resources, laboratories, student support services, and various co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
As Principal and Secretary, I firmly believe that education is the most powerful instrument for social transformation and human development. Our collective endeavour is to equip students with knowledge, skills, values, and confidence so that they may contribute meaningfully to society and face future challenges with competence and integrity.
I express my sincere gratitude to the Governing Body, teaching and non-teaching staff, students, parents, alumni, and well-wishers whose unwavering support and dedication have contributed significantly to the growth and success of the institution over the years. Together, we shall continue to uphold the legacy of Murkong Selek College and work towards achieving greater heights in higher education and community development.
